Getting Involved

There are so many reasons to get stuck in to what’s going on in school & so many ways to do it. We know for example that the more involved parents are in school life, the better their children tend to do in school.

But don’t just do it for them – do it for yourself.

So go on. Start small. Put in a little. Get out a lot.

How can I get involved?

Parents Group

If you are interested in becoming a member of a parents’ group, please contact the school office & leave your name & contact details. We envisage the group meeting every half term in the parents’ room to discuss how they might help the school to achieve its aims for their children.

The group will have its own constitution, a chair & vice-chair, secretary & treasurer, & should be able to apply for grants & pots of money such as lottery funding that the school has no access to. They may also help to organise events such as an annual School Fete in the playground!

So if you’ve got fresh ideas or relevant skills or even if you just want to be a part of it all & to help make Stebon a better place for your children to learn, do get in touch. Email admin@stebon.towerhamlets.sch.uk or just turn up at the office!

Courses & workshops

With the help of our new School Home Support Worker (SHSW) we would love to start offering a new range of courses for parents in school. These might include any of the following:

  • Plumbing
  • Sewing
  • Cooking
  • ICT
  • Dance
  • Strengthening Families, Strengthening Communities
  • Warrior Women self defence
  • Public speaking
  • Embroidery
  • Maths
  • Storytelling
  • Beauty & make-up

Let us know what you’d be interested in & if there’s enough demand, we’ll do our best to make it happen.

Again, get in touch with the office on admin@stebon.towerhamlets.sch.uk to have your say. It’s never too late to learn something new!

Volunteering

People in strong communities volunteer. We would love more volunteers in our school; they do an amazing job. You might be a parent or perhaps come from the local business community; you might be looking for work experience or just want to give something back. If so, come and talk to us about volunteering.

You could volunteer in a number of ways; depending on what you’d like to offer, you might:

  • Read with children
  • Work 1 to 1 with a child who might need a little extra help or
  • Help to prepare resources eg book making
  • Helping out with events such as the School Fete or Sports Day

There will be a member of staff responsible for looking after you & making sure you are welcomed & inducted properly.

You will be amazed at the difference you can make. If you’d like to volunteer at Stebon, call or email admin@stebon.towerhamlets.sch.uk

*To ensure the safeguarding of Stebon’s children, all volunteers will be required to undertake a Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check prior to starting work in the school.
