There are so many reasons to get stuck in to what’s going on in school & so many ways to do it. We know for example that the more involved parents are in school life, the better their children tend to do in school.
But don’t just do it for them – do it for yourself.
So go on. Start small. Put in a little. Get out a lot.
How can I get involved?
With the help of our Family Engagement team, we we have offered an array of courses for parents in school. These have included:
- ESOL courses
- Plumbing
- Sewing, embroidery & knitting
- Cooking
- ICT
- Common ailments
- Strengthening Families, Strengthening Communities
- Public speaking
- Maths
- Storytelling
Let us know what you’d be interested in & if there’s enough demand, we’ll do our best to make it happen.
Again, get in touch with the office on admin@stebon.org.uk to have your say. It’s never too late to learn something new!
People in strong communities volunteer. We would love more volunteers in our school; they do an amazing job. You might be a parent or perhaps come from the local business community; you might be looking for work experience or just want to give something back. If so, come and talk to us about volunteering.
You could volunteer in a number of ways; depending on what you’d like to offer, you might:
- Read with children
- Work 1 to 1 with a child who might need a little extra help or
- Help to prepare resources eg book making
- Helping out with events such as the School Fete or Sports Day
There will be a member of staff responsible for looking after you & making sure you are welcomed & inducted properly.
You will be amazed at the difference you can make. If you’d like to volunteer at Stebon, call or email admin@stebon.org.uk
*To ensure the safeguarding of Stebon’s children, all volunteers will be required to undertake a Disclosure & Barring Service check (DBS) check prior to starting work in the school.
Or you could just start by coming in on a Thursday morning to have a cup of tea or coffee & a chat with Chanel, our Family Engagement Officer & other like-minded parents.
We also have a coffee morning for dads on the first Wednesday of every month!
The ‘Shaping Stebon’s Future’ conference is an annual opportunity for parents to get together with school leaders & members of the Local Governing Board to celebrate the work of the school & discuss ways in which we can still improve.
Your ideas are used to compile a document for change we call ‘Parent Power’. Every year we feed back to parents on the difference their ideas have made.
