Parent Voice

Parents are our number 1 allies. Together we have a vested interest in the same things: the safety, happiness & achievement of their children. We simply could not do what we have to do without them.

We know that children are most likely to make great progress when they notice their parents and teachers working together – so try to involve parents in as much as we can.

Throughout the periods of Covid lockdown, staff at school were blown away by the outpouring of love, appreciation & support offered by parents. Have a look at some of what they had to say here:

What parents say about Stebon:

I’m fortunate enough to have my son Ibraheem in school. If he wasn’t allowed to go I would’ve been lost, and not because of home schooling ... because of his wonderful teachers. Ibraheem absolutely loves being in school, I’ve had to enrol him in after school club because he wants to stay there. He even tells me to take the long route when picking him up so I don’t get him too early lol. Makes me really proud (and a bit jealous) telling my friends and family about Stebon because not a lot of children have the same experience. Keep up the excellent work and I hope I get a chance to thank everyone in person soon.

Dearest Anna, We would like to say a huge thank you for all your hard work, effort, love and care you show our Yahya! Yahya always looks forward to his zoom calls and can’t wait for school to open again when it is safe, which just goes to show how much he enjoys school and feels safe in your company and for that we cannot thank you enough! Thank you for making learning fun and helping Yahya progress so much! You’ve even taught my little Siyaanah, who is 2, without knowing whilst on your zoom calls 🙂 She forever says ‘my teacher is Anna’ 🙂 And a huge thank you for always responding to our emails and putting a smile on Yahya’s and our faces with your kind comments and words!

Hi Becky & Mohammed, Thank you for teaching my child in a smaller group in addition to your normal classes. My child needed that extra support and attention which I wasn’t able to provide due to work. I cannot tell you how much comfort and assurance it gives me that she isn’t being left behind and you have recognised and picked up on that yourself. In this doom and gloom you are all an absolute ray of light to our children! Thank you for all you do!

I believe the teachers have been doing two jobs in one teaching children at home and school, you guys have gone above and beyond what you have been trained to do. I seriously think you guys need a pay rise!

Nursery team - What an inspiring group of people! Thank you for every video and live reading lesson. You all managed to get children dancing, learning and most importantly, smiling! Your creativity is mind-blowing! Thank you for keeping our home warm with the smiles.

Hi Jeremy, I want to thank my daughter Aizah Islam’s teachers Becky and Mohammed from Jessica Ennis class. Becky and Mohammed have been true heroes during this difficult time of learning for children through online and in class as well. The way they balance listening to the children at home and in class is truly remarkable, as it is not easy when all the children are shouting across at the same time. Thank you so much to you both for putting in the extra effort and teaching my child along with all the others in the class in the best way! A big pat on your backs for that. A huge THANKS to all the teachers from Albert Einstein and Beatrice Potter, especially Alice and Rohima. Throughout this pandemic, we have all faced difficulties that we had never imagined nor the time to prepare for. We are very impressed with the school's attitude towards the spread of Covid when schools were open and even more so when it was closed and we had to resort to online learning. It's a challenge at home with just two children with both parents working, but having to do a whole class digitally from your end without them falling behind has greater challenges. We admire your energy, passion, and commitment. You have found innovative ways to keep our children on the right path of academia. Well done and keep up the good work

Hi Kay & Noorjahan, I, like many now work from home across the room from my son each day and listen to you teach. I cannot express in words how much patience and warmth you both clearly have towards your students! I sit there and think your profession is not recognised enough. Over the weeks my child has become more independent and barely needs my help which works great for me so I can get on with my work. His progress and skills was not self-taught, it was through you both! Many, many thanks and appreciation!

‘Shaping Stebon’s Future’?

We also know that parents always have fantastic ideas about how our school can improve. Harnessing these ideas is the task of ‘Shaping Stebon’s Future’

‘Shaping Stebon’s Future’ is the name we give to our annual parents’ conference – it does what it says on the tin! It’s a great opportunity for us to find out from parents what they think is going well at Stebon & to gather ideas for how children’s (and parents’) experience at our school might be improved. In participating, parents really are … shaping Stebon’s future!

The conference usually happens late in the autumn term. Parents’ suggestions are taken on & considered by staff at school before we make a plan. We then send feedback after Christmas about what we’re going to do differently & what parents might do to support our efforts.

The final piece of the jigsaw is our evaluation of how well our changes – based on parents’ suggestions – have worked. This document is called ‘Parent Power’. You can see the latest Parent Power here.
