Remote Education at The LETTA Trust: Information for parents

This information below is intended to provide clarity to pupils and parents or carers about what to expect from remote education if local restrictions require all pupils (or classes) to remain at home. For details of what to expect where individual pupils are self-isolating, please see the final section of this page.

The Curriculum

We will provide an excellent standard of education for all pupils when they are learning at home.

We will teach the same curriculum remotely as we do in school wherever possible. We have needed to make adaptations to certain activities in some subjects but the learning remains the same. For example, in year 5 the children would make clay pots. In this instance, the activity will need to change but the learning objectives around sculpture remain the same.

Remote Teaching and Learning

How will my child be taught remotely?

We will use a range of approaches to teach pupils remotely:

EYFS

live teaching through zoom
pre-recorded videos made by teachers
commercially available websites
commercially available video clips

KS1 & KS2

live teaching through Google Meets
pre-recorded videos made by teachers
Google Classroom: Google Slides, Google Forms, Google Docs, Jam
commercially available websites including Mathletics, PurpleMash, MyOn, Accelerated Reader
commercially available video clips

How will my child access the remote learning?

EYFS: Parents will receive an email everyday outlining the timetable. It will also include all links needed to access the learning.

KS1 & KS2: Parents will receive an email everyday outlining the timetable. The pupils will then access all of the learning via their Google Classroom.

How long can I expect work set by the school to take my child each day?

We expect that remote learning (including live teaching and independent work) will take pupils broadly the following number of hours each day:

EYFS and KS1: 3 hours

KS2: 4 hours

If my child does not have digital or online access at home, how will you support them to access remote learning?

Devices

All children from years 1-6 have a school device so they can learn from home. If you do not have access to a laptop, desktop or ChromeBook at home, please contact your child’s class teacher via email.

Internet

If you do not have access to the internet, please call the school and ask to organise a phone conversation with your child’s class teacher. We will support you with access through the community broadband project or a dongle.

Engagement and Feedback

What are your expectations for my child’s engagement and the support that we as parents and carers should provide at home?

We expect pupils to complete all aspects of their remote learning, following the timetable that is shared by class teachers.

We ask parents to:

establish routines with your child/children
actively encourage your child to complete the online learning
check that your child is completing the learning
speak to your child’s class teacher if you have any questions or concerns

How will you check whether my child is engaging with their work and how will I be informed if there are concerns?

The school will monitor attendance and engagement every day by registering the children who attend live lessons. We will also monitor the children’s work on Google Classroom from years 3-6 and request work to be emailed in to staff in EYFS and KS1.

You will receive a phone call from a member of the class team at least once a week. As part of this conversation, we will discuss engagement, how your child is getting on with their learning and discuss their wellbeing. This is also an opportunity for you to ask any questions.

How will you assess my child’s work and progress?

Feedback is really important and can take many forms. Your child will receive feedback every day in the following ways:

instant verbal feedback in live lessons
feedback as comments on your child’s work in Google Classroom
whole class feedback on Google Classroom
live quizzes – quizzes marked automatically via Google Forms
replies to your emails

Additional support for pupils with particular needs

How will you work with me to help my child who needs additional support from adults at home to access remote education?

We recognise that some pupils, for example some pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), may not be able to access remote education without support from adults at home. We acknowledge the difficulties this may place on families, and we will work with parents and carers to support those pupils in the following ways:

providing physical resources for the children to access their learning
delivering online speech and language support
1-1 and small group zoom sessions for children and their families to attend led by school staff
sharing visual timetables to help structure the day at home
remote bespoke training for parents and carers so they can support their children’s learning

In the event that children and families continue to experience difficulties in accessing remote education we will make a place available to them at school.

Remote Learning: Self-isolating Pupils

Self-isolating pupils will have their school device at home so they can continue to access the learning alongside their peers, as long as they are well enough to do so.

When schools are closed it is important that your child/ren continue their learning at home.
